To say that Olive left an impression on me is -- to borrow a cliche -- a vast understatement. From the first time we met, Olive always smiled. Always. Never one to worry about anything, Olive exhibited this spirit of calmness and patience that I secretly envied (and sometimes mocked). As one example, Olive would teach her aerobics class at the YMCA, then head off to braid someone's hair, and still make time for a 6:30pm law school exam. Phenomenal!!! On the other hand, I and most other mere mortals would be a panicky mess! Plus, as an added bonus, Olive laughed at my corny jokes. As the old saying goes: there are people in this world who leave footprints in your heart, and you are never the same. Olive was such a person. Ms. Ikeh will not soon be forgotten. ---Pascale E. But, maybe that's because of the magnetic personality she held. Funny, she was also my personal braider. The conversations you can have when she was working lightening speed braiding your hair! I'm sorry that you are both just learning of her death as well. I won't be able to attend this weekends memorial as I am out of the country, but I'll be there in spirit. I'm sure it will be lovely and serve as a final goodbye for those of us who can't attend the funeral... Peace be with you.

P.S: I'm glad she at least saw Barack Obama gain victory, as I know she was involved in his campaign.Nicole Wendy Forresterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13128458546036981790noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3471715415336520791.post-36905826189933625612009-01-21T00:53:00.000-05:002009-01-21T00:53:00.000-05:00I met Olive in South Africa in 2006. She had such a sweet spirit and she was a great person. Although I didn't know her that long I know that she had such a great passion for life and standing up for her rights and what she believed in. I was able to celebrate with her on election night and we shared tears of joy and excitement. I just found out through a friend of her death today and it truly saddens me. My thoughts and prayers are with you, all of her friends, family and the many different lives she touched. I plan to attend the memorial service that will be here in Lansing for her on this Saturday Jan.24th.

God BlessDefinitely_MiMihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05485448972388611486noreply@blogger.com
